Installing gutter in cold weather

Gutter is one of the few exterior trades that can work through most of the winter, which surprises people who assume it shuts down with roofing and concrete. The aluminum forms fine in the cold, the fasteners drive fine, and the finished system performs identically. There are genuine constraints. Sealant is the main one, since most gutter sealants have a minimum application temperature and will not cure properly below it. That affects miters and end caps specifically, which is a small part of the job but a critical one. Handling long runs of formed aluminum in high wind is a safety limit rather than a quality one. Ice on the roof edge and on ladders sets its own schedule. What this means practically is that a system that fails in December does not have to be lived with until April. It also means that if the failure is not urgent, there is no penalty for waiting for a better window, and there is often more scheduling flexibility in the cold months than in the autumn rush. Either way it is worth asking rather than assuming the answer is no.
