Why seamless gutter is different from sectional
Sectional gutter comes in ten-foot lengths and is joined on site with connectors and sealant. Every joint is a place where two pieces of metal meet, expand and contract at slightly different rates, and eventually work the sealant loose. A forty-foot run built from sections has three or four of those. Seamless gutter is formed on site from a coil of aluminum, run through a brake on the truck, and comes out as one continuous piece the length of the run. The only joints in the finished system are at corners and outlets, where they are unavoidable. Fewer joints means fewer places to fail, and the failures that do occur are at predictable points rather than anywhere along the length. There is a second, quieter benefit. Because the gutter is formed on site, it can be made to the exact length needed instead of the nearest ten feet. That removes the offcut joints that sectional installs use to make up the difference. Almost all professional residential gutter installed today is seamless, and if a quote does not say which it is, that is worth asking about before signing.
